Description

Joseph Eichler, inspired by Neutra and Wright was a builder/developer who confronted the need for affordable housing after WW2. Examples of his projects can be found in many areas of California and around the country, One enclave in San Rafael has become a focus for Bay Area residents who want to transform the affordable but worn structures into current examples of simple and elegant living.

Sticking with the original floor plan, this project is a showcase of carefully managed upgrades, bringing contemporary materials and style to a receptive form. Climate and economy combine to support the asian-influenced Zen styling of window walls with trimless openings offset by traditionally-detailed tansu style cabinets.
