Description
In 2006 I purchased a 28’ Airstream trailer and I created this project as an exploration of a design idea. Could I use the Airstream as a core service element, providing living space, kitchen and bathroom for a larger utility building. The concept would keep the trailer mobile (large roll-up door) and provide a protective cover. The barn roof would include skylights designed to align with the skylights in the trailer, the barn windows would be designed to align with the windows in the trailer, and the barn floor would be designed to align with the floor of the trailer. In such a “garage” structure, the trailer would meet local planning codes that might prohibit the parking of a trailer outdoors on certain properties, and the structure itself (having no kitchen or bath) could not be taxed as a “residence”. Using a pre-fab “barn” would keep the cost of the enclosure to a minimum.
